The 7 Covenants of Allaah

Allaah تعالى has made 7 promises in return for 5 actions and they are:

1. Increase (in blessings) in return for being grateful (al-Shukr):

{لَئِن شَكَرْتُمْ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ}

{If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favors and blessings]} [Surah Ibraaheem (14):7]

2. His praise for His slaves in return for the slaves making a mention their Lord:

{فَاذْكُرُونِي أَذْكُرْكُمْ}

{Therefore remember Me (by praying, glorifying, etc.). I will remember you} [Surah al-Baqarah (2): 152]

3. Confirmed acceptance of the Du`aa when they call Him:

{ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ}

{Call on Me; I will answer your (Prayer)} [Surah Ghaafir (40):60]

4. Will not punish them as long as the slaves are engaged in doing Istighfaar:

{وَمَا كَانَ اللَّـهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ}

{Nor will He punish them while they seek (Allaah’s) Forgiveness.} [Surah al-Anfaal (8): 33]

5. Provide them authority on earth,
6. and confirmed sustenance
7. and continuous safety in return for worshiping Him alone:

{وَعَدَ اللَّـهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنكُمْ وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَيَسْتَخْلِفَنَّهُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ كَمَا اسْتَخْلَفَ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ وَلَيُمَكِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ دِينَهُمُ الَّذِي ارْتَضَىٰ لَهُمْ وَلَيُبَدِّلَنَّهُم مِّن بَعْدِ خَوْفِهِمْ أَمْنًا ۚ يَعْبُدُونَنِي لَا يُشْرِكُونَ بِي شَيْئًا ۚ وَمَن كَفَرَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُولَـٰئِكَ هُمُ الْفَاسِقُونَ}

{Allaah has promised those among you who believe, and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the earth, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practice their religion, that which He has chosen for them (i.e. Islam). And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear (provided) they (believers) worship Me and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me. But whoever disbelieved after this, they are the Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allaah).} [Surah al-Noor (24): 55]

Tawheed can only be established upon knowledge:

بـسـم الله والحـمـد لله والـصلاة والـسـلام عــلى رسـول الله، وبـعـد

Shaikh al-Islaam, Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله reported that Mu`aadh bin Jabal رضي الله عنه said:

“Upon you is to seek knowledge; for seeking it for the sake of Allaah is worship; and understanding it (increases) the Fear (of Allaah);  searching for it is (a type of) Jihaad; teaching it to those who do not know it is a charity; revising it is (like doing) Tasbeeh (Glorification of Allaah);

How to attain guidance and righteousness?

Shaikh Ibn Taymiyyah –rahimahullaah- said:

“Hudaa (guidance) is not attained except through `Ilm (Knowledge) and Rashaad (Righteousness) is not attained except through Sabr (Patience).”

Shaikh Ibn Baaz: "People who died during al-Fatrah will be tested on the Day of Judgement"

Shaikh Ibn Baaz رحمه الله said:

* The correct opinion [1] is that the ahl al-Fatrah (those who received no message or messenger), they will be tested on the Day of Judgment. Whomsoever obeys (Allaah تعالى) will enter the Paradise and those who disobey (Him) will enter the Fire.

Introduction to Tafseer al-Sa`dee by Shaikh al-`Uthaymeen

All praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds and peace and blessings be upon Prophet Muhammad, his family, his companions and those who follow them upon righteousness till the Day of Judgment.

To proceed:

Verily, the Tafseer of our Sheikh `Abdul Rahmaan bin Naaser al-Sa`dee رحمه الله تعالى which is entitled “Tayseer Kareem al-Rahmaan fee Tafseer Kalaam al-Mannaan” is among the best Tafaaseer which has a lot of (distinct) features:

From it is: Easy (understandability) and clear phrases which - those grounded in knowledge as well as other than them - can understand.

And from it is: Avoiding redundancy, stuffing of words and lengthening (the topic) which has no benefit except wasting the time of the reader and confusing him.

And from it is: Avoidance of mentioning the different opinions except when the opposite view is strong and there is a necessity to mention it; and this is a very important feature in regards to the reader till his understanding becomes firm upon a matter.

And from it is: Treading the Manhaj (path) of al-Salaf (al-Saaleh) in explaining the verses about the (Names and) Attributes (of Allaah تعالى) without distortion or changing the meaning which opposes the meaning that Allaah تعالى intended. It is an excellent (book) which confirms the correct `Aqeedah.

And from it is: Accuracy in interpreting  that which the verses point to – along with mentioning the benefits in it as well as the rulings. This is clearly evident in some of the verses like the verse of Ablution in Surah al-Maaidah in which he mentioned fifty rulings regarding it as well as in the story of Dawood and Sulaimaan عليهم السلام in Surah Saad.

From it is: It is a book of Tafseer and a guidebook towards good manners as is evident in the Tafseer of the saying of Allaah تعالى in Surah al-A`raaf (7):199:

خُذِ الْعَفْوَ وَأْمُرْ بِالْعُرْفِ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ الْجَاهِلِينَ

{Show forgiveness, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the foolish}

For this, I refer to everyone who wants to acquire the books of Tafseer that their library should not be without this valuable  Tafseer.

I ask Allaah تعالى to rewards the author and make it beneficial for its reader for He is Kareemum Jawwaad wa sal-Allaahu `alaa Nabiyyinaa Muhammad wa `alaa aalihee wa as-haabihee wa man tabi`ahum bi ihsaan.

How can man forget his own creation and set parables to Allaah?

How can the the one (a walee, abdaal, qutub or anyone for that matter) whose beginning was from a Nutfa (sperm) compare himself with Allaah or claim that he can help or ward of the punishment of Allaah?!

{Does not man see that We have created him from Nutfah (mixed drops of male and female sexual discharge). Yet behold! he (stands forth) as an open opponent. * And he puts forth for Us a parable, and forgets his own creation.} [Surah Yaaseen (36): 77-78]

How a Believer behaves:

بـسـم الله والحـمـد لله والـصلاة والـسـلام عــلى رسـول الله، وبـعـد

Wahb Ibn Munabbih رحمه الله said:

“The Believer intermingles to learn, adopts silence to protect (himself), speaks to teach and adopts isolation for success.”

[Siyar A`laam al-Nubalaa’]

By Allaah! You cannot satisfy everyone

By Allaah! You cannot satisfy everyone – but that is still not a justification for you to lower your standards.

Some people feel that they can always get away with a person’s good manners and characteristics. Some of them consider a person’s moral values as his weakness of which they can take advantage of anytime.

Even the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم was not spared by these people who have disease in their hearts and are deluded by their ideas. He صلى الله عليه وسلم would listen to the excuse of the person and would pardon him. For the Believers, this was a mercy from Allaah, but as for the hypocrites, it only increased them in arrogance.

Allaah تعالى mentions about the hypocrites and their attitude towards His Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم saying:

{And among them are men who hurt the Prophet (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) and say: “He is (lending his) ear (to every news).” Say: “He listens to what is best for you; he believes in Allaah; has faith in the believers; and is a mercy to those of you who believe.” But those who hurt Allaah’s Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) will have a painful torment.} [Surah al-Tawbah (9): 61]

Imaam Ibn Katheer رحمه الله said:

“Allaah تعالى says that some hypocrites bother the Messenger of Allaah by questioning his character, saying:

{he is (lending his) ear}, meaning: he believes whoever talks to him; and whoever speaks to him about us, he believes him;. Therefore, if we went to him and swore (and presented our excuse), he would believe us. Similar was reported from Ibn `Abbaas Mujaahid and Qataadah.

Allaah تعالى said:

{Say: “He listens to what is best for you”} he knows who’s saying the truth and who is lying,

{he believes in Allaah; has faith in the believers} he believes (the speech of) the believers,

{and is a mercy to those of you who believe”}, and a proof against the disbelievers,

{But those who annoy Allaah's Messenger, will have a painful torment}
--end of quote

So let not the people’s reaction be the determining factor for your behavior.

How to avoid becoming a spendthrift?

Before purchasing a thing always keep this in mind:

1. That you don't buy a thing which you already own or have something similar to it.
2. The thing that is being bought is out of requirement and not because you can buy it.
3. That it won't be used in disobedience to Allaah.

Allaah تعالى says: {But spend not wastefully (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift.} [Surah al-Israa’ (17): 26]

Ibn Mas`ood رضي الله عنه said: “This refers to spending extravagantly when it is not appropriate (i.e. spending unnecessarily).”

Ibn `Abbaas رضي الله عنهما said likewise.

Mujaahid said: “If a man spends all his wealth on appropriate things, then he is not a spendthrift, but if he spends a little inappropriately, then he is a spendthrift.”

Qataadah said: “Extravagance means spending money on sin, in disobeying Allaah, and on wrongful and corrupt things.”

Introduction to Tafseer al-Muyassar - King Fahad Complex for the Printing of the Glorious Qur’aan.

A small clarification:

The purpose here is to introduce to some of the readers, who might be unaware, of a very concise and easy Tafseer of the Glorious Qur’aan which has been in print and available for the readers for quite some time.

The time when people will stop to distinguish between...

It is reported al-Fudayl bin Ayyaadh Said: “How will you be if you reach a time when you see people who do not distinguish truth from falsehood, believer from unbeliever, trustworthy from treacherous, nor ignorant from knowledgeable & neither recognize what is right nor what is wrong ?”

The Night and the Day - the two signs of Allaah

The Night and the Day are among the major signs of Allaah - تعالى - of which many of us are  desensitized. Allaah تعالى has explained it in great details but many of us know not:

{And We have appointed the night and the day as two Ayaat (signs etc.). Then, We have made dark the sign of the night while We have made the sign of day illuminating, that you may seek bounty from your Lord, and that you may know the number of the years and the reckoning. And We have explained everything (in detail) with full explanation.} [Surah al-Israa' (17):12]

Tafseer: {The Spendthrifts are the brothers of the Shayaateen}

SURAH AL-ISRAA’ (17): 26-32

{And give to the kinsman his due, and to the Miskeen (poor), and to the wayfarer. But spend not wastefully (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift. * Verily, the spendthrifts are brothers of the Shayaateen (devils), and the Shaytaan is ever ungrateful to his Lord. * And if you turn away from them and you are awaiting a mercy from your Lord for which you hope, then, speak unto them a soft, kind word. * And let not your hand be tied (like a miser) to your neck, nor overextend it (like a spendthrift), so that you become blameworthy and in severe poverty. * Truly, your Lord expands the provision for whom He wills and straitens (for whom He wills). Verily, He is Ever All-Knower, All-Seer of His servants. * And kill not your children for fear of poverty. We shall provide for them as well as for you. Surely, the killing of them is a great sin. * And come not near to the unlawful sexual intercourse. Verily, it is a Faahishah [i.e. anything that transgresses its limits (a great sin)], and an evil way (that leads one to Hell unless Allaah forgives him). }

Removing the Doubts: when to say "laa haula walaa quwwata illaa billaah", and its meaning.

Pure Hearts Vs. Music

`Abdullaah Ibn Mas`ood رضي الله عنه said: “Music generates hypocrisy in the heart.”

The righteous Caliph, `Uthmaan Ibn `Affaan رضي الله عنه said: “If our hearts become pure, we would never have gotten tired from (reading/listening to) the Word of Allaah (i.e. the Qur’aan).”

[Some have narrated the statement of `Uthmaan رضي الله عنه as: “If our hearts become pure, we would never get tired of the Word of our Lord.” Another narration: “If your hearts become pure, you would not have gotten tired of the Word of your Lord.”]
