“The stage in-between the two stages”, between the Mu`tazilah and the Modernists:

بسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله ، وبعد

The Mu`tazilah (the deviated sect) came with the concept of “a stage in-between two stages”; saying that a person who does a major sin (like adultery, gambling, drinking intoxicants) is neither a Muslim nor a Kaafir, he is in-between the stage of being a Muslim and a Kaafir; and he will abide in the Hellfire forever.

Imaam al-Awza`ee رحمه الله said:

"When a bid`ah (an act of innovation in religion) shows up and the scholars don't warn against it, it becomes a Sunnah*."

[Sharf as-haab al-Hadeeth (1/17)]

* i.e. it becomes a norm in the society, people accept it to be the truth and follow it.

There is no comparison between a Muslim and a non-Muslim

Allaah تعالى says:

#1.

{And honor belong to Allaah, His Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), and to the believers, but the hypocrites know not.} [Surah al-Munaafiqoon (63):8]

Brief Comments of Shaikh Ibn Baaz on Saheeh al-Bukhaaree #23

Rewarding good with good even if the person is a Kaafir

Book of One-fifth of Booty to the Cause of Allaah (Khumus): Chapter: The free emancipation of the captives by the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم without taking out the Khumus from the booty

Narrated Jubair bin Mut`im رضي الله عنه: The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم talked about war prisoners of Badr saying: “Had al-Mut`im bin `Adee been alive and interceded with me for these mean people, I would have freed them for his sake.” [1]

Inspect yourselves, maybe your fear is due to Shirk:

بسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله ، وبعد

Shaikh al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله said:

“So whenever al-Tawheed gets stronger in the heart of a slave, his Imaan, his Tuma’neenah (tranquility), his Tawakkul (reliance upon Allaah), and his Yaqeen (certainty) gets stronger.

And the fear which occurs in the hearts of the people is (due to) the Shirk which is in their hearts. Allaah تعالى says:

{سَنُلْقِي فِي قُلُوبِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا الرُّعْبَ بِمَا أَشْرَكُوا بِاللَّهِ}

{We shall cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve, because they committed Shirk (joined others in worship) with Allaah} [Surah aal-`Imraan (3): 151]”

The affirmation of the attribute of العلو for Allaah تعالى

Allaah تعالى said:

{To Him ascends good speech, and righteous work raises it.} [Surah al-Faatir (34): 10]

Shaikh Muhammad Ibn `Abdullaah al-Sabeel (d. 1434H) رحمه الله said:

Allaah تعالى said:

{To Him ascends good speech} [Surah al-Faatir (35): 10]

{To Him}, meaning: towards Allaah

{Yas`ad}, meaning: ascends, rises.

{Good speech}, meaning: Remembrance (of Allaah), Recitation (of the Qur’aan), Du`aa (supplication).

{And righteous work raises it}, meaning: the sincere action, which is free from Riyaa’ (showing-off), and is in accordance with the Sunnah; Allaah تعالى raises it towards Him and accepts it.

In these Noble Verses, there is affirmation of the Attribute of العُلُو (The Most High) for Allaah سبحانه وتعالى; for ascension and rising (of a thing) is not possible except from the lower (level) towards the higher (level).
