Stipulating the Marriage Contract

[Sharh Riyaadh al-Saaliheen (6/271-272) of Shaikh al-`Uthaymeen

The Shaikh رحمه الله said:

And from the contracts which are to be honored is the marriage contract which takes place between the spouses. (Both) the man and the woman can stipulate conditions, and the one who accepts the conditions should honor it. Example: (the woman) stipulates the condition that she will not live in with his family (her in-laws). So it is compulsory for him to honor it (as he has agreed to it in the contract). There are some women who do not want to live with their husband’s family is troublesome, intrusive and gossipmongers. So she stipulates that’s she won’t live with his family. So it is binding upon him to honor this, because Allaah تعالى said:

Etiquette: Cursing

[Sharh Riyaadh al-Saaliheen (6/191-192) of Shaikh al-`Uthaymeen

The Shaikh رحمه الله said:

al-La`n (Curse: اللعن) means: expelling and driving away from the Mercy of Allaah. So when a person says: “O Allaah! Curse so-and-so”, it is meant by it that Allaah تعالى drives away and expels someone from His mercy; and Allaah’s refuge is sought.

Cursing a particular/specific person is from the major sins; meaning: It is not permissible to curse a particular person by saying: “O Allaah! Curse so-and-so”, or saying: “Allaah’s curse be on you” or something similar, even if he is a kaafir and he is alive, it is not permissible for you to curse him. This is because the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, due to what took place, said: “O Allaah! Curse so-and-so, O Allaah! Curse so-and-so” i.e. he صلى الله عليه وسلم was naming individuals, so Allaah تعالى said: {Not for you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) is the decision (it is for Allaah Alone); whether He turns in mercy to (pardons) them or punishes them; verily, they are the Zalimoon (polytheists, disobedients, and wrong-doers, etc.).} [1]

Remember Allaah much except if you are insane

Allaah تبارك وتعالى did not set a limit on His remembrance, for He تعالى said:

{ يا أيها الذين آمنوا اذكروا الله ذكراً كثيراً }

{O you who believe! Remember Allaah with much remembrance.} [Surah al-Ahzaab (33): 41]

The Surahs which contain the Fundamentals of the Deen

Shaikh al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله said:

The Purpose of Intention

What is the purpose of intention (Niyyah)?

The purpose of intention is to:
1. Distinguish for whom it is being done.
2. And to distinguish between the various actions.

The Auliyaa' of Allaah

[Sharh Riyaadh al-Saaliheen of Shaikh alh-`Uthaymeen

Some material in this post is redundant due to the fact that the topic of Auliyaa' came up several times throughout the series.

Allaah تعالى says:

{ألا إن أولياء الله لا خوف عليهم ولا هم يحزنون*الذين ءامنوا وكانوا يتقون}
{No doubt! Verily, the Auliyaa of Allaah no fear shall come upon them nor shall they grieve - those who believed (in the Oneness of Allaah - Islaamic Monotheism), and used to fear Allaah much (by abstaining from evil deeds and sins and by doing righteous deeds).} [Surah Yunus (10):62-63]

The Wilaayah (becoming a Walee of Allaah) in a nutshell

Revised (Nov. 12, 2014)

This is a brief explanation of the world around a Walee and the many misunderstandings related with it:

A) Definition of “Walee”:

Linguistically, the `Arabic word Walee means: “to be near to”, “close to”.

It also means: “ally”, “protector”, “guardian”, “helper”, “supporter” etc.

It also means: “friend”, “companion”.

So, when the “Walee of a woman” is mentioned, then it means her close male guardian/supporter like her father, brother, etc who are responsible for taking care of her and in charge of her marriage. A woman is not allowed to get married except with the presence/permission of her Walee.

Book of Prayer Times: Chapter: {(And remain always) turning in repentance to Him (only), and be afraid and dutiful to Him; and perform As-Salaah (the prayers) and be not of Al-Mushrikeen} [Surah al-Room (30):31]

Once a delegation of `Abdul-Qais came [1] to Allaah’s Apostle صلى الله عليه وسلم and said: ‘We belong to such and such branch of the tribe of Rabee`ah and we can only come to you [2] in the sacred months [3]. Order us to do something good so that we may (carry out) take it from you and also invite to it our people whom we have left behind (at home).’ The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “I order you to do four things and forbid you from four things. Book of Prayer Times: Chapter: ‘Prayers at fixed hours have been prescribed’

Narrated Ibn Shihaab: Once `Umar bin `Abdul `Azeez delayed the prayer and `Urwah bin Az-Zubair went to him and said: Once in Koofah (`Iraaq), Al-Mugheerah bin Shu`bah delayed his prayers and Abi Mas`ood Al-Ansaaree went to him and said: O Mugheerah! What is this? Don't you know that once Jibreel (Gabriel) came and offered the prayer (Fajr prayer) and Allaah's Apostle صلى الله عليه وسلم prayed too; then he prayed again (Dhuhr prayer) and so did Allaah's Apostle صلى الله عليه وسلم; and again he prayed (`Asr prayer) and Allaah's Apostle صلى الله عليه وسلم did the same; again he prayed (Maghrib-prayer) and so did Allaah's Apostle صلى الله عليه وسلم; and again prayed (`Ishaa’ prayer) and so did Allaah's Apostle صلى الله عليه وسلم and (Jibreel) said: “I was ordered to do so (to demonstrate the prayers prescribed to you).” `Umar (bin `Abdul `Azeez) said to `Urwah: “Be sure of what you say. Did Jibreel lead Allaah's Apostle صلى الله عليه وسلم at the stated times of the prayers? `Urwah replied: Bashir bin Abi Mas`ood narrated like this on the authority of his father. [1]

What does "The Shade of Allaah" mean?

[Sharh Riyaadh al-Saaliheen (1/467-468) of Shaikh al-`Uthaymeen

Narrated Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه: The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Allaah will give shade, to seven, on the Day when there will be no shade but His. (These seven persons are) a just ruler, a youth who has been brought up in the worship of Allaah (i.e. worships Allaah sincerely from childhood), a man whose heart is attached to the mosques (i.e. to pray the compulsory prayers in the mosque in congregation), two persons who love each other only for Allaah's sake and they meet and part in Allaah's cause only, a man who refuses the call of a charming woman of noble birth for illicit intercourse with her and says: I am afraid of Allaah, a man who gives charitable gifts so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given (i.e. nobody knows how much he has given in charity), and a person who remembers Allaah in seclusion and his eyes are then flooded with tears.” [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (660, 1423, 6806) and Saheeh Muslim (1031)]

The conditions for the deeds to be accepted

Revised on June 17th, 2014

The conditions for the deeds to be accepted:

1. Sincerity of intention: That it should not be done for anyone other than Allaah, neither for seeking the praise from the creation nor for some worldly benefits. Whoever intends with it other than Allaah’s pleasure has committed shirk.

{And they were commanded not, but that they should worship Allaah, and worship none but Him Alone, and perform As-Salaah and give Zakaah: and that is the right religion.} [Surah al-Bayyinah (98): 5]

Importance of asking Allaah for well-being (العافية)

The Fifth Pillar of Islaam

Performing Hajj:

{وَأَتِمُّوا الْحَجَّ وَالْعُمْرَةَ لِلَّـهِ}
{And perform properly (all the ceremonies of) Hajj and `Umrah (according to the ways of Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) for Allaah.} [Surah al-Baqarah (2):196]

{وَأَذِّن فِي النَّاسِ بِالْحَجِّ يَأْتُوكَ رِجَالًا وَعَلَىٰ كُلِّ ضَامِرٍ يَأْتِينَ مِن كُلِّ فَجٍّ عَمِيقٍ}
{And proclaim to the people the Hajj [pilgrimage]; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every distant pass} [Surah al-Hajj (12):27]

The Fourth Pillar of Islaam

Fasting in Ramadhaan:

{يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ}
{O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqoon} [Surah al-Baqarah (2):183]

Meaning: Linguistically: It means to withhold / abstain / refrain. As Allaah تعالى says:

The Aayah of "The Test"

[Sharh Riyaadh al-Saaliheen (3/269) of Shaikh al-`Uthaymeen

Shaikh al-`Uthaymeen رحمه الله commented on the saying of Allaah تبارك وتعالى:

{قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّـهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّـهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ}
{Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم to mankind): “If you (really) love Allaah then follow me (i.e. accept Islaamic Monotheism, follow the Qur’aan and the Sunnah), Allaah will love you and forgive you of your sins.} [Surah aal-`Imraan (3): 31]

The Third Pillar of Islaam

Giving out the Zakaah*:

{ وَأَقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَآتُوا الزَّكَاةَ وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ}
{And perform As-Salaah (Iqamat-as-Salaah), and give Zakaah and obey the Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) that you may receive mercy (from Allaah).} [Surah al-Nisaa’ (4):103]

Meaning: Linguistically: It means purity, prosperity and increase as Allaah تعالى says:

{خُذْ مِنْ أَمْوَالِهِمْ صَدَقَةً تُطَهِّرُهُمْ وَتُزَكِّيهِم بِهَا}
{Take Sadaqah** (alms) from their wealth in order to purify them and sanctify them with it} [Surah al-Tawbah (9): 103]

The Name of Surah al-Ikhlaas

[Sharh Riyaadh al-Saaliheen (5/544) of Shaikh al-`Uthaymeen

Shaikh al-`Uthaymeen رحمه الله said:

It has been so named as Surah al-Ikhlaas (Purity) because Allaah تعالى reserved this Surah purely for Himself. He تعالى did not mention in it except that which concerned Him جل وعلا (regarding His Names and Attributes). There is no mention in it in regards to the rulings on Tahaarah or Salaah or (buying and) selling or other than that, but rather all of it is set-aside for Allaah عز وجل. Moreover, the one who recites it will have a complete sincerity towards Allaah تعالى. This Surah is Pure and it purifies – purifying its reciter from Shirk.

And in (4/673) the Shaikh رحمه الله said:

The Second Pillar of Islaam

Establishing the Salaah

{ إِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ كَانَتْ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ كِتَابًا مَّوْقُوتًا}
{Verily, the prayer is enjoined on the believers at fixed hours.} [Surah al-Nisaa’ (4):103]

Meaning: Linguistically: The word Salaah has many meaning, but the original meaning of it is al-Du`aa (supplication). As Allaah تعالى says:

The First Pillar of Islaam

Bearing witness that:

Laa ilaaha illallaah Muhammad-ur-Rasool-Allaah

Meaning: There is no one worthy of being worshiped except Allaah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah.

The Religion of Islaam

The religion of Islaam is the religion which Allaah sent Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم with, and made it the final religion, and He تعالى will not accept from anyone a religion other than it. Allaah تعالى says:

{Muhammad [صلى الله عليه وسلم] is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allaah and the last (end) of the Prophets. And Allaah is Ever All-Knower of everything.} [Surah al-Ahzaab (33): 40]

Shaikh al-`Uthaymeen رحمه الله said:

The ruling on the 2 actions associated with death

No doubt that the death - as Allaah calls it - is a calamity, which affects the deceased and those around him from his family. It brings the actions of the deceased to an end and saddens his family upon his demise.

These two things have become a common practice in association with death:
