بـسـم الله والحـمـد لله والـصلاة والـسـلام عــلى رسـول الله، وبـعـد
On
the authority of `Abdullaah ibn `Umar رضي الله عنهما that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم
said: “Allaah تبارك وتعالى loves that you accept His concessions in
the same way as He hates that you approach evil deeds.”

in another narration the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم
said: “Allaah تبارك وتعالى loves that you accept His concessions in
the same way as you love to accept His obligations.”

What does it mean by “concessions”?
Allaah’s
concession in religion doesn’t mean that one pray’s whenever he wants and
abandons the prayers as and when he likes, neither does it mean that one becomes
lenient or lax in religious obligations.
The
concession here is choosing the easier of the two options as long they are not
sinful:
Narrated
`Aaishah رضي الله عنها:
“Whenever Allaah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم
was given the choice of one of two matters he would choose the easier of the
two as long as it was not sinful to do so, but if it was sinful, he would not
approach it.”

Why the need for “concessions”?
Narrated
Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه:
The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Religion
is very easy and whoever overburdens himself in his religion will not be able to
continue in that way. So you should not be extremists, but try to be near to
perfection and receive the good tidings that you will be rewarded; and gain
strength by worshipping in the mornings and in the nights.”

What are the types “concessions”?
A
few examples are:
*Reduction in the
number of prayers from 50 times a day to 5 times, but the reward remaining the
same:
In the long Hadeeth about the Prophet’s صلى الله عليه
وسلم night ascension
to the Heavens, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Allaah تعالى said: {These are five prayers and they are all (equal to) fifty (in
reward) for My Word does not change.}”

*Reduction in the
number of raka`aat for the traveler, or while fearing the enemies, or during a war:
On the authority of Ya`laa bin Umayyah: He said: I
said to `Umar bin al-Khattaab رضي الله عنه (about the verse): {There is no blame on you if you shorten the
prayer if you fear that those who disbelieve will trouble you}. But the people are safe (now)”. He
said: ‘I was wondering about that just as you are wondering. So, I asked the
Prophet of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم about it. He صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “It is a charity which Allaah has granted you,
so accept it.”

*Delay in fasting
for the sick and the traveler:
On the authority of Hamza bin `Amr
al-Aslamee رضي الله عنه that he said: “Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم,
I find strength in me for fasting on a journey; is there any sin upon me (in
doing it)?” Thereupon the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم
said: “It is a concession from Allaah. He who
took advantage of it, it is good for him, and he who preferred to observe fast,
there is no sin upon him.”

Religion is easy; so don’t make it difficult for yourself.
