The Meaning of “Muhammad Rasool-ullaah” (Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah) has four principles:

1. To believe in everything he صلى الله عليه وسلم has informed us: This includes the information about the things which have already happened – like the stories of the people in the past; the things which are going to happen in the future – like the portents of the Hour, the things that are going to happen on the Day of Judgment, and Paradise and Hell.

2. To obey him صلى الله عليه وسلم in what he صلى الله عليه وسلم has commanded: It is binding upon us to follow him صلى الله عليه وسلم in all that he has commanded us to do with absolute obedience to his orders, being pleased and satisfied with it, and with complete submission and willingness.

3. To avoid all that he صلى الله عليه وسلم forbade: we must abstain and move away from all that which he صلى الله عليه وسلم forbade with absolute obedience to his orders, being pleased and satisfied with it, and with complete submission and willingness.

4. And not to worship Allaah except in the way he صلى الله عليه وسلم has legislated: It is binding upon us to worship Allaah according to the guidance of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم; so that we make ablution in the way he صلى الله عليه وسلم made ablution, we pray as he صلى الله عليه وسلم prayed, we do Hajj as he صلى الله عليه وسلم did Hajj, we sell and purchase as he has ordered us, and do the Adhkaar as he did the Adhkaar (remembrance of Allaah). It is not allowed for us to invent a method of worship from our own – that which the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم did not do or commanded – so that we do not fall into innovations.

Allaah تعالى says:
{And whatsoever the Messenger gives you, take it; and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it). And fear Allaah; verily, Allaah is Severe in punishment.} [Surah al-Hashr (59): 7]

He تعالى also says:
{But no, by thy Lord, they can have no (real) faith, until they make you (O Muhammad) judge in all disputes between them, and find in their souls no resistance against thy decisions, but accept them with full conviction} [Surah al-Nisaa (4): 65]

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "Leave me as I leave you, for the people who were before you were ruined because of their questions and their differences over their prophets. So, if I forbid you to do something, then keep away from it. And if I order you to do something, then do of it as much as you can." [Saheeh al-Bukhari Vol. 9 Hadeeth 391 & Muslim on the authority of Abu Hurairah]

We ask Allaah that He grants all of us the obedience of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and to follow his guidance. Verily Allaah is the granter of success.
