The Islaamic Ruling On Celebrating Birthdays

بسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله، وبعد

Celebrating birthdays is like self glorification. People celebrate their life every year and forget the reality that death is promised to all. The most important thing is whether we would die obeying our creator or obeying our desires.

And if you say that you celebrate it because you want to thank Allaah for another year in your life; then know that you should be thankful to Allaah for that everyday you live and that every breath you take. You should thank Him in the ways which Allaah has prescribed and the way the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم has described. Singling out one day like this is not the way we were taught by our Prophet and if there was any benefit in it, he صلى الله عليه وسلم would have informed us.

Virtues And Recommended Deeds Of The First 10 Days Of Dhul Hijjah

Revised on October 5th, 2013

بسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله ، وبعد

Narrated Ibn `Abbaas رضي الله عنه: The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “No good deeds done on other days are superior to those done on these (first ten days of Dhul Hijja).” Then some companions of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Not even Jihad?” He صلى الله عليه وسلم replied: “Not even Jihad, except that of a man who does it by putting himself and his property in danger (for Allaah's sake) and does not return with any of those things.” [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree Vol. 2, Hadeeth (86)]

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم also said: “There are no days greater or more loved by Allaah in which to perform good deeds other than these 10 days, therefore praise and glorify Allaah abundantly in these days.” [Musnad Ahmad (1968) and it is Saheeh]

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم also said: “The best of days is that of Arafah.” [Ibn Hibbaan (3853) and graded as “Dha`eef” (Weak) by Shaikh al-Albaanee but there are other authentic Ahaadeeth on the virtues of of the Day of `Arafah.]

The Grave Mistake

بسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله ، وبعد

The Grave Mistake

Allaah تعالى says: {Verily, Allaah forgives not that partners should be set up with Him (in worship), but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He wills; and whoever sets up partners with Allaah in worship, he has indeed invented a tremendous sin.} [Surah al-Nisaa (4): 48]

Shirk, associating partners with Allaah, is a sin which will not be forgiven by Allaah, except for the person who sincerely repents from it and stops doing it. The person who dies doing Shirk will never enter Paradise, nor will he ever come out of Hell.
